These are really rare and special beads. They are old glass beads in a lovely blue color with a splash of green in the center. They were made of uranium glass, more commonly known as vaseline glass, its popularity can be traced to the 1830s. They radiate a bright, bold fluorescent green under a black light. The glowing properties are from the uranium oxides and additional fluorescing colorants such as manganese and iron infused into the glass at the molten stage. This shape is called saturn because of the ring around the middle, there are also facets. Sold in packs of 6 beads. Due to their age these beads may have small chips, and pits that are normal for their age.- See another view .

Russian blue beads that were made in Bohemia by the drawn glass technique and were faceted by hand. Since each bead was hand made, they will vary in shape, size and facets. The color of the beads varies from medium to dark cobalt blue. They have large beading holes that are 2-4mm. This strand is 20" long and has 40 beads on it. It is from the late 1800's. These antique beads show some signs of wear and pitting, which adds to their beauty and story. See view A, B, C.

Strands of antique round Prosser glass beads in a turquoise blue color. These are old European made round beads that vary a little in size within the strand and generally have large holes Prosser Beads are named after its inventor, Richard Prosser, who developed the process in Bohemia in the 1830s. Prosser beads can be recognized by the barely visible seam that runs around the center of the outside edge of each bead and by the uniformity of shape and size of beads in a single strand. These strands are 16" long and are from the mid to late 1800's. See view A, B

These are old European made round beads that are nicely matched in size within the strand and generally have large holes. This type of bead has several names - Pony, Crow and Padre Beads. Turquoise blue "padres" were first made in China in the 17th and 18th centuries, carried across the Pacific to the Americas and from there on to Europe and Africa. These beads are drawn from canes and are slightly translucent in a nice medium blue color. Their finish is shiny and slightly greasy looking. The beads have large holes that are 4-5mm. They were hand made so the size and shape will vary a little. Sold in packs of 24. See view A, B

These are round glass beads in a cornflower blue color. They are a cloudy blue color that is slightly translucent. The color reminds me of natural chalcedony. Sold in packs of 40 beads. See view A, B
