All of the beads on this page are crafted of wood. Wooden beads are one of the oldest adornment materials ever used as a canvas for carving. Wooden beads will add warmth and are known to add an organic and natural feel to your beading projects. Wood has been crafted, dyed and carved into every shape imaginable. It is also lightweight, a good value, and great for kids and beginners to practice with. Wooden beads look great when paired with other natural beads, such as bone, horn, shells, or gemstones.

These are great vintage cinnabar beads were deeply carved by hand in a floral pattern. They were made long ago with a process that involved slowly adding many layers of cinnabar lacquer over a wood base. The cinnabar mineral was found to be toxic, so true cinnabar beads can no longer be made. We just love the look of these mixed with our cloisonne beads.
